Whiting Brahma Soft Hackle With Chickabou provides tyers with two different types of feathers. Brahma pelts feature both soft hackle and Chickabou.  These are mainly used to tie subsurface patterns to be fished as wet flies.

Brahma Soft Hackle With Chickabou Uses

Soft hackle

The top portion of the pelt contains two panels of full web, Matuka type wet fly feathers.  The feathers on either side are mirror images and so can be paired for balanced, opposing sides of a fly.  When used in full, they are ideal for Matuka and Sculpin flies. Because of their width, they can be used to create collars on hooks sizes from 10 to 2.

Chickabou

The marabou like feathers at the narrow end of the pelt are what Whiting Farms has named Chickabou.  These feathers are much finer and more delicate than tradition turkey marabou.  It can be used in two basic ways.  When applied at the end of a fly, it gives a lifelike appearance to damsel, dragon fly and woolly bugger patterns. When tied to the body of a fly, it creates a unique alive-like motion.
